Two victims killed in an attack on a synagogue in Manchester have been named by police as Adrian Daulby, aged 53, and 66-year-old Melvin Cravitz.

Three more people remain in hospital with serious injuries after the attacker used an automobile into individuals before using a bladed weapon on the morning of the incident.

The attack, which law enforcement has confirmed was a act of terrorism, occurred on the Day of Atonement, the holiest day in the Jewish faith.

The attacker, who was shot dead at the site, was a 35-year-old UK national of Syrian background who was not previously known to counter terrorism police, per security officials.

Official Statements

"We are devastated," the nation's top rabbinical authority declared.

Speaking to a prominent media outlet, he stated: "What transpired yesterday was a terrible shock to us, something which we had apprehensions regarding might happen because of the build up."

The attack was not only "a profoundly troubling moment" for Jews in Britain "but for everyone in our country," he added.

Security Measures

"Our responsibility is to make sure our Jewish citizens, our citizens can go about their lives with protection and peace of mind," a senior government official stated.

"It is unacceptable that the Jewish community in our country to believe they must live a reduced Jewish identity, that they cannot go about their business and practice their faith and visit their worship places in freedom," she stated.

The attacker was not recognized to security services, she told broadcasters, and it was "premature" to say if there was a terror network behind the attack.

Police Inquiry

The police investigation was "moving forward quickly" and there was an enhanced security deployment at religious institutions across the UK.

"The government does provide safety resources," the minister commented, adding: "It will be necessary to examine what further actions we can take to deal with rising antisemitism."

Greater Manchester police said they were assisting the relatives of the two deceased individuals.

"Sincere condolences are with the families of the victims at this profoundly challenging moment," a senior police officer stated.

He indicated that designated family representatives were in communication with families and would continue to support them through the investigative procedures.

"Although procedures exist which require adherence, we promise to be considerate of community customs and concerns and to ensuring that these men and their loved ones' wishes are honored," he said, mentioning that the two men were from the local area.

Medical examinations are scheduled on the following day, per authoritative reports.
